There are so many wonderful villages and town along the Cote d’Azur that sometimes really lovely ones gets overlooked.
10 years ago Vence was not as interesting as it is today. The old town has been rejuvenated and is now a really lovely place to spend a morning or afternoon strolling about.
The painting above was painted there last year.
However on a recent visit I took a series of photos and did some ink sketches, which, while staying in Mandelieu I have painted in my travel sketch book and so here are the results.
I hope you will like seeing them and enjoy visiting Vence as much as we now do.
Just by the town is the Chapelle du Rosaire designed and decorated by by Henri Matisse. He considered this to be his masterpiece and it is internally decorated by him. Although a simple Chapel it is well worth visiting.
In the Museum in the old town there is currently a Matisse exhibition and a very interesting video of how the Chapel came to be created with the support of his close friend the Dominican Nun Sister Jacques-Marie. Take the time to watch this excellent video if you can.

Enjoy your travelling
